"Our research suggests that the answer to treating hair loss might be as simple as using a naturally occurring deoxyribose sugar to boost the blood supply to the hair follicles to encourage hair growth,"

A sugar that naturally occurs in the body may be just as effective as prescription drugs for treating a common hair loss condition affecting both men and women, a recent animal study finds. “2-deoxy-D-ribose (2dDR), the naturally occurring sugar was found possibly to be as effective as the FDA-approved drug minoxidil,” the research team wrote. 

Researchers believe that sugar naturally occurring in the human body can help stimulate hair growth. Hair regrowth came after the formation of new blood vessels, thanks to a boost in the blood supply to hair follicles.

the researchers found that both groups treated with 2dDR gel and minoxidil stimulated the morphogenesis of hair follicles. In addition, tissue section results also showed an increase in follicle length, diameter, follicle density, anagen/neuperagen ratio, follicle diameter, melanin-covered hair bulb area, and an increase in the number of blood vessels in both groups.

This natural sugar aids cell growth, new blood vessel formation, and tissue regeneration. While treating mouse wounds, researchers unexpectedly noticed faster hair growth surrounding these areas.
